On this page, we’ll talk a bit more about the removal of squirrels, and everything you need to know about it.

We honestly believe your best choice, when dealing with undesired wildlife, is to call a professional wildlife removal company, like Fur & Feathers Wildlife Control. Our team of professional wildlife removal experts is ever ready to engage in the speedy and humane removal of squirrels from your property.

We focus on professionalism and efficiency so that you don’t have to deal with your wildlife problem any longer than necessary.

First, let’s talk about our removal process.

We’ll inspect the premises.

Before we take any decisive action, it’s important that we make sure we are, indeed, dealing with squirrels and not some other critter. Squirrels are typically diurnal, meaning they will be most active during the day and evening (so if you’re hearing night noises, it’s unlikely to be squirrels).

Common signs of a squirrel invasion include:

  • Noises – squeaks and climbing noises, particularly during the daytime, are a good indicator of a squirrel invasion;
  • Strong smell – squirrel urine has a foul, unpleasant sort of smell that can, in time, build up, and become quite pungent;
  • Acorn deposits – this may be one of the oldest cliches in the book, but squirrels are big acorn fans, so if you find large deposits of acorns on or around your property, it may be time to call a wildlife removal professional.

We’ll devise a removal plan.

The specifics of this plan will be influenced by your personal preferences, the damage to your home, and of course, the extent of the invasion. Dealing with one adult squirrel is different than dealing with a bunch of them, especially if there are also baby squirrels present.

So our wildlife removal team will figure out the best live trap or exclusion method for your particular situation, and then put it into action. Don’t worry – once the trap is set, we’ll be checking it regularly, to make sure the squirrel doesn’t suffer needlessly.

Once we’ve safely captured the squirrel, we will transport and release it in the wild, so that it’s not able to bother you or your neighbors anymore.

Where are you most likely to find squirrels?

Like most other wild animals, squirrels are attracted to human properties because of the abundance of food, water, and warmth (not to mention, they can provide excellent cover from predators).

But on your property, they will want to look for a nice place that’s safe and warm, and generally out of your way, so that you don’t discover them. Most commonly, this means either the attic or the chimney (quite likely if you don’t have a chimney cap installed).

Prevention, repair, and sanitation.

Once a wild animal has been safely removed from your property, it is time to ensure another invasion doesn’t follow. In order to do this, we will handle the various warning signs, like:

  • Sealing the entry points – we will identify the crack, hole, or opening that allowed the squirrel access into the home, in the first place, and seal it properly. Commonly used sealing materials include caulk, expandable foam, and wire mesh so that the animals can’t chew or claw their way inside.
  • Removing attraction points – next, it is also important that we identify what attracted the squirrel to your home, to begin with, and get rid of it. This often involves some sort of edible on your property (this can mean inside your home, but also in your garden patch, or even in your yard);
  • Installing preventive measures – for instance, if the squirrel was discovered inside your chimney, this may mean installing a chimney cap to prevent future invasions.

Once a squirrel invasion has been safely dealt with, it’s also important that we clean the premises, in order to remove any offensive materials. Not only is squirrel urine highly pungent, it also exposes you to a wide range of infectious diseases (along with squirrel feces) like tularemia, typhus, ringworm, and several other afflictions.

So we’ll want to remove it and sanitize the premises as swiftly as possible. Be careful, removing a wild animal from your property without properly sanitizing the premises afterward can be dangerous, and put you and your family at risk of contracting a serious illness.

Another important part of the property restoration process following a squirrel invasion involves repairing any damaged areas. Squirrels are notorious chewers, and so it’s not uncommon to discover they’ve chewed through stored items, furniture, wooden support structures, and even electrical wires. If the wires or the support structures have been affected, this can be a very serious problem, as it poses a threat of fire or collapse. Such damage needs to be addressed immediately.

In their struggle to build adequate nests, squirrels are also quite likely to damage the insulation in your attic, which may, in turn, affect the circulation of air in your home, and decrease its property value. So this is another issue that ought to be addressed as quickly as possible.
