First of all, a word on snakes…
It’s important to familiarize yourself with the most common snakes in Pennsylvania. For instance, in the Eastern Pennsylvania region, there are only three types of venomous snakes:
- The Eastern Copperhead;
- The Easter Massasauga;
- The Timber Rattlesnake.

How to remove snakes…
Our preferred method for removing snakes (venomous or non-venomous) is through live trapping. This is a highly humane method that allows us to capture the snake while still alive, and relocate it to an area far enough away from your property so that it won’t be able to bother you anymore.
However, there are other methods for snake removal, including glue traps or poisons, as well as common deterrents, like certain pungent scents, or vibrations.
Should you attempt DIY snake removal?
No. In our expert opinion, snake removal is best left to professionals. This is because snakes are tricky, complex creatures. Even if you’re lucky enough to encounter a non-venomous one, bear in mind that a snake is still likely to bite you, if only in self-defense. Even a bite from a non-venomous snake can be highly painful, not to mention a serious health hazard.
If you have no choice but to attempt DIY removal, we urge you to use ample protective gear. Make sure your skin is covered – wear high boots made of thick rubber to prevent an ankle bite, but also wear gloves and long sleeves to prevent them from attacking your hands.
