Expert Opossum Removal

Like most wild animals you’re likely to run into in your backyard, possums aren’t overly aggressive by nature. They’re not there to actively hurt or torment you, but rather to find a decent source of food, water, and/or shelter for themselves. That being said, the opossum can be quite a destructive force, and wreak quite a bit of havoc on your crops, bins, and your property in general.

Are opossums dangerous?

A lot of concerned homeowners reach out to us, to determine whether or not they need to be alarmed by the opossum they’ve just spotted in their yard. As we’ve established, opossums aren’t mean, per se, but they can cause property damage, as well as pose a threat to your health and wellbeing.

Possums, like most other wild animals, carry a range of serious infectious diseases, such as tularemia, toxoplasmosis, leptospirosis, tuberculosis, relapsing fever, and numerous others.

As such, you probably don’t want them around.

What are the signs of an opossum infestation?

First, our team of professional wildlife removal experts will arrive to investigate and inspect your property, to make sure we are dealing with an opossum, and not some other wild animal.

Common opossum signs include:

  • Loud scratching noises – known for their fierce claws, possums have been known to fervently scratch trees, as well as the outside of your property;
  • Noises – possums tend to vocalize a lot, to communicate with one another. Shrieks, lip-smacking, hissing and other similar unexplained noises inside a building may alert you to a possum infestation;
  • Opossum damage – opossums have also been known to tear up roofs, soffits, walls, insulation, and other things that might stand in their way, with their noticeable claws.

Once we’ve established that the problem is an opossum and not some other creature, we’ll move on to opossum removal.

How to get rid of opossums

As mentioned, we will focus on humanely removing the opossum that’s bothering you. Most commonly, opossums can be removed through the use of a live trap, which is very similar to your traditional trap, with the addition that it keeps the opossum alive.

Once inside the cage, our experts will be able to relocate the opossum, or family of opossums, into the wild, thus ridding you of a problem humanely. Alternative opossum removal methods include opossum exclusion devices, opossum repellents, and so on.

Cleaning up and restoration

Once we’ve safely removed the opossum, our team of wildlife removal professionals will focus on sanitizing your property, removing any potential health hazards, as well as repairing the damage.

This may include replacing torn insulation, or damaged wires, as well as fixing potential entry points, such as missing shingles, cracks, or holes, and removing attraction points (such as food sources). This should help ensure you don’t run into opossum infestations in the future.

So if you’re struggling with an opossum infestation on your residential or commercial Eastern Pennsylvania property, call us at Fur & Feathers Wildlife Control at +1 866-442-9360, and we’ll take care of it for you.
