Wildlife Control & Pest Protection

What is humane wildlife removal? And why should you choose it?

As the name suggests, humane wildlife removal basically means using non-lethal methods of removing an animal from your property. These may include live traps, or even various exclusion methods, as opposed to lethal traps, poisons, and other final measures.

Humane wildlife removal, you’ll find, can be preferable for a number of reasons. First, it rids the procedure of unnecessary cruelty. While many wild animals are unpleasant house guests, they’re not expressly malicious ones. That is to say, while a raccoon in your bins might be annoying, or loud, it’s not there to hurt you. So if it’s not trying to hurt you, maybe you shouldn’t try to hurt it, in turn.

Humane wildlife removal is also preferable to other lethal methods, particularly poison, because, with poison, you’re always running the risk of losing track of the poisoned animal. Once ingested, the poison may take several hours, or even days, to work properly during which time, the animal may cause more trouble than it’s worth on your property.

So humane removal should be your go-to first option for getting rid of nuisance wildlife.

What kind of animals do we handle?

What should you do if you’re unsure of the animal in your home?

Animal identification and extermination

Suppose you’ve discovered animal feces, fur, feathers, or anything of the like on your property, but are unsure what the animal in question is… what should you do? Well, our first suggestion would be to reach out to a professional wildlife removal expert.

Our team at Fur & Feathers Wildlife Control will arrive as swiftly as possible at your Eastern Pennsylvania or New Jersey home, and inspect the situation properly. We will be able to determine just what kind of animal is scuttering under the floorboards, or stomping about in your attic, with no risk to you or your family.

Once we’ve established the animal itself, and hopefully the number of animals, we will begin to devise a plan to get rid of them.

Removing the animal.

We will work with you to establish the best way to remove unwanted animals from your property, while also safeguarding your home against future invasions.

Depending on the removal method of choice, we will then set about actually catching and removing the animal. We use our professional-grade equipment to capture and release the wild animal in question, and thus safely remove it from your property.

We make sure that the wild animal doesn’t suffer unnecessarily during the removal process, and instead, try to make the whole operation as quick and efficient as possible.

Cleaning and restoring the property.

Next comes the often overlooked, yet equally important bit, the clean-up and restoration. You can usually opt for your wildlife removal company to handle this as well, or choose to do it yourself.

Why are restoration and clean-up important?

Because usually, wild animals will leave behind a mess. This includes bodily matter like feces or skin, which may expose you to various serious illnesses. However, they also leave behind the damaged fabric, furniture, trampled insulation, or even damaged electrical wires, which may turn out to be a fire hazard. So you’ll want to get your home cleaned up and restored as quickly as possible.

Sealing the entry points.

One of the most important steps of wildlife removal is discovering the animal’s entry point. Only by doing this are we able to make sure other animals won’t come along and do the same in the future.

So often, our process begins with a thorough inspection of the premises, in order to determine the entry point. Once established, we will use a material that is difficult for animals to chew or claw through (to avoid attracting newcomers) to fill in the holes. Depending on the situation, this might be caulk, wire mesh, expandable foam, or other similar materials.
